The Chaps band included the late Mike (Burger) Scoggins who became very-well known in Little Rock & throughout Arkansas, both as a solo artist and with his Sweet Magnolia Band. It also included Stueart Matlock (an original Chap) who went on to having his own Matlock Band that had out 2 vinyl albums in Texas in tribute to Buddy Holly, as well as some other early 60's rock n' rollers along with some of his own originals, plus some Bob Dylan tunes on LeCam Records. Besides Scoggins & Matlock - the group had Mac Heird (another original Chap) on bass guitar, Doug Fulmer on drums, Phil Schlenker & Kenneth Williams on guitars. Most of their original material was written by Scoggins or Matlock separately or together, with a couple by Fulmer, and one co-written by Schlenker. Most of their vocals were done by Scoggins & Matlock plus an R&B singer named L.B. Gibson, who was with the group part of this time. The group enjoyed doing covers of both The Band & Beatles material along with their originals in the studio plus enjoyed playing live all over the state. They made a number of joint appearances with others, including The Uniques, from their era and did some live music in Oklahoma, Louisiana, & Texas along with playing all over Arkansas. They did a lot of their recording at Robin Hood Brians Studio in Tyler, Texas. They played in clubs, colleges, teen centers/proms, and on concert venues throughout their time together and were very well-known in central Arkansas (both Little Rock & Pine Bluff areas), the Fayetteville area, the Texarkana area, Monroe, La. area, and many other colleges where they performed for fraternities & sororities over the years. It was a busy number of years with lots of recording sessions and one-nighters then.
