Formed in 1962, the Challengers, an instrumental surf music band, were highly influential on the burgeoning surf music scene that was sweeping across California in the early 1960's. The band was formed out of the pioneer surf band called the Bel-Airs who scored a big hit with a surf instrumental titled "Mr. Moto." Presented here is their vintage 1963 album presented by Lloyd Thaxton who had a popular syndicated pop music television program in the 1960s called the Lloyd Thaxton show, similar to Dick Clark's American Bandstand. "Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing with the Challengers," features a Ventures medley and a pair of originals "Tidal Wave" and "Surfer's Pony" written by leader and drummer Richard Delvy. Members of the Challengers on this album are Richard Delvy (drums); Randy Nauert (bass); Glenn Grey (lead guitar); Don Landis (rhythm guitar); Jim Roberts (piano, organ) and Nick Hefner (saxophone). Finally available in the digital domain, all selections newly remastered.
