Di Sarli's success as a composer, band leader and brilliant arranger should not obscure the fact that he was also an excellent pianist. He managed to create his very own mode of expression, which kept Di Sarli at an equal distance from the Old Guard (Guardia Vieja), incarnated by Francisco Canaro and Roberto Firpo, and the New Guard (Guardia Nueva), of which Julio de Caro was the prototype. Even today, Di Sarli's music is still a guaranteed hit at ballroom dances.
