BUDDY KNOX was the first R&R artist to write his own #1 record, 'Party Doll', which he recorded at Norman Petty's Clovis, New Mexico, studio. Knox was also the man who put Tex-Mex music on the map, Beating Buddy Holly & The Crickets (who also, of course, recorded the bulk of their output at Petty's Clovis studio) out of the traps by a clear six months. After cutting a string of hits for the Roulette label in the 50s, Knox joined Liberty?Records in 1960, where he re-ignited his career with hits like 'Lovey Dovey', 'Ling Ting Tong' and 'She's Gone'. This compilation anthologises his Liberty output: tracks 1-18 his 45s, tracks 19-30 his LP "Buddy Knox's Golden Hits", which comprised stereo versions of seven of those sides, plus classy stereo recuts of five of his earlier Roulette hits.
