The recently deceased Clarence Reid was one of the R&B world’s best songwriters during the 1960’s and 1970’s, penning and producing hits for iconic artists such as Betty Wright, Sam & Dave, Gwen McRae, Jimmy "Bo" Horne, Bobby Byrd and KC & The Sunshine Band. As a hobby, Reid also wrote sexually explicit songs that he performed only for his friends at parties or in the studio at first, and in 1971 recorded a whole album of these explicit tunes with a crack band of top notch studio musicians including Latimore, Timmy Thomas and members of KC & The Sunshine Band, under the name Blowfly. As Blowfly, Reid created an almost comic book persona alter ego, dressing in bizarre stage costumes resembling a low rent super hero from the ghetto. He continued to record these sexually explicit records throughout the 1970’s and 80’s and developed a huge underground following. Many fans argue that Blowfly was the first dirty rapper, years before Rudy Ray Moore and Luke Skyywalker. Presented here is a 32-track comprehensive overview of Blowfly’s most popular tracks from his most productive period beginning in the early 1970’s. All selections have been newly remastered for this special release.
