Excellent collection that comprises all of the key seminal vintage 1958 Bossa Nova recordings including the two minutes that changed the world: Joao Gilberto's 'Chega de Saudade'. Also includes Elizete Cardoso's long out of print album Canção do Amor Demais, which features both Joao Gilberto and Tom Jobim in it's entirety and there are outstanding and impossibly scarce performances by some famous protagonists including Luiz Bonfa, Os Cariocas, Sylvia Telles, Laurindo Almeida and Agostinho dos Santos. The CD closes with an old 78 in the spirit of the aesthetic by the great Brazilian master-guitarist Garoto. The Birth of Bossa covers important early territory that has not been well-documented so far on CD and will nicely compliment any Bossa Nova collection. El Records. 2009.
