Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, The Five Dukes officially formed in 1954 and only made a single record although they were together on and off for about ten years. The actual single they released in 1954 – “I Cross My Fingers” b/w “Wheel Baby Wheel,” is credited to Bennie Woods and The Five Dukes although Bennie Woods (the group’s manager) doesn’t even sing on the record. The Five Dukes were vocalists Joe Hill (lead tenor), Joe Simmons (tenor), Danny Jett (baritone), Thermon Blackwell (bass) and guitarist Buster Henderson. Presented here is their historic, lone single, newly remastered.
