Towards the end of his stay in Berlin stated, the English musicologist Charles Burney: 'Of all the sound engineers who have been in Prussian service for more than thirty years, perhaps only two, namely C. Ph. E. Bach and Franz Benda alone had the courage even to be original, the others are imitators. ' From a serf family to arise, the Benda brothers by intelligence, perseverance and diligence had worked his court musicians to widely respected. The recorded works underline Burney assessment, and our view of the early classical period is here enriched by wonderful, far too little known music.
