Ben Arnold - Circle Round the Sun

'CIRCLE 'ROUND THE SUN' is the newest release from Ben Arnold. It is the culmination of a year's work and a collaboration of both music and art. These recent songs explore strong emotions and honest conversation while the music draws on piano and guitar driven slightly psychedelic folk-rock, blues and a little gospel. Ben and players Zach Djanikian (Amos Lee) and Shane Smith (Los Lobos/Feist) attack these essentially joyful songs of struggle, release, promise and redemption told with intriguing, yet accessibly strong melodies. He wrote and co-produced it all on the West Coast and finished up with a little help from friends from around the Philly scene including Ross Bellenoit, John Lilley and Rob Hyman of The Hooters as well as his regular working band. Ben Arnold has been playing some of the most soulful sounds in and around Philadelphia and the world for that matter, for the last 20 years. Whether at the wheel of his own band and solo material, as part of the European touring band US RAILS, Los Angeles' PISTOL FOR RINGO or performing alongside Philly's own Tommy Conwell, Richard Bush and members of The Hooters as part of David Uosikkinen's IN THE POCKET, his lyrics bring to mind early John Hiatt, Mose Allison and Lowell George. People say he sings a bit like Randy Newman or Joe Cocker, but drives his live shows more like Springsteen did in the 70's.
