Long regarded as one of the best vocal groups to come out of Norfolk, Virginia in the 1960's, The Anglos are best known for their 1965 single on the Orbit Records label "Incense" b/w "Stepping Stone," - the track "Incense" became an early mod favorite in the UK. In 1967 the Anglos recorded the Northern Soul classic "Since You've Been Gone" which was nationally issued on the Scepter label. The two recordings featured here were recorded in the late 1960's, slated to come out on the short lived Botanic label but never released. These sides were produced by fellow Norfolk native Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams and were recorded at 919 Sound Studios in Philadelphia. The track "Broke Down Piece Of Man" was written by Steve Cropper and Joe Shamwell, while "Four Walls Of Gloom" was penned by producer Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams. The resulting single, "Broke Down Piece Of Man" b/w "Four Walls Of Gloom," is presented here newly remastered from the original master tapes and finally made available in the digital domain.
