Four CD set tracing the development of indie music from the height of the Britpop explosion in 1995 through it's aftershocks to the post-Britpop period in 1999, on the cusp of the new millennium. This box continues the story of indie/Britpop from Cherry Red's 'Popscene From Baggy To Britpop 1989-1994'. Includes many hit singles and cult rarities. 1995 was the year that Britpop exploded into mainstream consciousness due to the infamous Blur vs Oasis chart battle that was even covered on the national News At Ten. Both bands had already scored UK number one albums in 1994 but going head-to-head in the singles chart ensured maximum media coverage. Their success focused attention on a revolution in music that included acts such as Elastica, The Boo Radleys, Paul Weller, Supergrass, Black Grape, The Charlatans and Pulp who all issued chart-topping albums, while Cast, Echobelly, Sleeper, Gene and Marion reached the Top 10. The Bluetones and Ash reached the top spot in 1996 with Ocean Colour Scene, Shed Seven, Lush and Radiohead also issuing Top 10 albums. 1997 saw Embrace and former Stone Roses' guitarist John Squire's The Seahorses hit big, while Echo And The Bunnymen returned with Oasis' Liam Gallagher on backing vocals and, in the post-Britpop period of 1998-1999, acts such as Gomez and Doves emerged. This compilation is presented in a clamshell box with a booklet with extensive notes plus band photos and pics of memorabilia.
