'thank you phil for your 5 year old self who thought, upon climbing onto the green leather backseat of aunt jerry's 1971 lime green Lincoln continental that you had entered the emerald city. Emerald city encapsulates the raw wonder of what happens when two honest and awe-filled musicians enter a studio' Richards, better known as Sarah Norvold throughout the Connecticut Shoreline, is a native of Madison and 2000graduate of Daniel Hand High School. After graduating from University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire in 2005 and teaching in Connecticut for a couple of years, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2007, proving to Music City that herwriting matches her singing, carrying a depth of confidence and heart. The five-song EP, is a compilation of thoughtful, vulnerable lyrics, revealing a raw, intimate mix of country and folk tradition. The fan-demand for Richards' music spurred theindependent artist to deliver a fearless view of life with a wry sense of humor in her debut musical set. Following the launch of "He Wears Women's Jeans," first-time and returning listeners continue to revel in her unique approach to heartbreak through auspicious and lively lyrics.'The EP represents all the beautiful scars and stories from my life. I have a mix of silly butterflies and intense emotions in releasing these songs....they were once just simple words and random thoughts from my journal,' muses Richards.The project, produced by Ryan Van Arkel, came together in Waterloo, Iowa, at Aim for Zero Studios. 'The studio experience was honest and real...I felt the magic behind the musical process, and I'm fortunate for that,' said Richards.The EP includes the delicate 'Made Her Stay' -- an invitation into the unfiltered story of love from both sides, and 'Mile marker 1,' a witty approach to the triumphs and tribulations of the singer/songwriter way of life.'This next step in my career is an opportunity to reach and affect listeners on a broader scale -- in the way many great country-folk artists have touched me.'The former music teacher is a regular on the schedule at well-known Nashville treasure spots for singers and listeners, such as 'The BlueBird Cafe, 'The Basement" and "Puckett's General Store.' She's also developed a strong Nashville following through her appearances at 'Cafe Coco,' 'The Commodore' and 'Hotel Indigo.'Richards' magnetic personality is worth noting as it has helped form an influential circle of musical relationships, including a bond with a band of siblings known as Arista recording artists Jypsi. Their organic friendship began with a music set at Layla's Bluegrass Inn and continues to be a force of support and inspiration.Whether on stage or on the sidewalks of Broadway in downtown Nashville, Richards and her breedlove 'Lucy O'Connor' guitar are working on new tracks for upcoming shows.
