In early-19th-century West African kingdom of Dahomey, warrior general Nanisca (Viola Davis) was steadfast in her command of the elite all-female brigade called the Agojie and her fealty to the regime of King Ghezo (John Boyega). Between dealing with reckless new conscript Nawi (Thuso Mbedu) and her own growing concerns about the crown's complicity with European slavers, her resolve may have it's deepest challenge.
