Reviews... Simply the nicest thing Roz Brown has ever recorded.. I am amazed.. It's almost hymnal-- Roz's voice is finally in context with the just the right arrangements around it, the right songs for his style and voice-- shades of Willie Nelson sometimes.. George Jones.. a romantic crooner. Well done. His son and Producer Paul Brown utilizes Roz's voice as an instrument--one among many, and help it's unique tenor and texture shine, both meshed in the other sounds, and yet one level above them-- It's Roz as I've never heard him him before. On top of that is the signature sweetness-the vulnerability of Roz' style, not suited to the gritty blues world but to the the world of the past, of emotion and caring tenderness. I've never heard him sing a love song before. Now I think he shouldn't sing anything else and although I have enjoyed his Americana/folk songs before, all I can say about Cowboy's Sweetheart is -- it's about time. A peak performance. Give that boy a hug. -Corinne Brown -Author, freelance writer, and music reviewer ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Many moons ago Roz Brown, the autoharp cowboy, made music at the WMA Festival in Tucson. For 30 years he's been seen at Denver's legendary Buckhorn Exchange (with and without Bill Barwick). This new CD shows just how far he has adventurously come! This is one of those examples of songs that are not specifically "Cowboy" still containing some of those (romantic) feelings. Roz and son/producer Paul Brown make full use of technology...synthesizers, electrified guitar and programmed drums included with acoustic elements. It's an interesting collection for the right-minded listener, with three songs written or co-written by the undervalued Wayland Holyfield ("Some Broken Hearts Never Mend," "You're My Best Friend" and "Till The Rivers All Run Dry"). Bob McDill's "Someone Like You," "Come Early Morning" and "Love Me Tonight" are here and not his Western "Everything That Glitters" or "Coyotes." Four Don Williams songs made the cut, too. Fifteen tracks total. Gotta say I had fun with this one... I've been listening to these songs over and over since the 1970's when Don Williams recorded many of them. Don's solo rendition of these sweet songs brought images to me of a cowboy singing to his sweetheart. I imagined the cowboy would have difficulty expressing these words if spoken but easily communicated them by singing them. This CD is dedicated to my sweetheart Barbara who inspired me to record this collection of love songs. For years my musician son Paul Brown has expressed his desire to record a CD with and for me. His experience in his own recording studio and in various bands left me no doubt that he could create a fine project for me. Paul came up to Denver and created a fine studio in my basement and we set off to see what we could do with my selection of songs, my Autoharp, and Paul's keyboard. I hope you enjoy listening to these tunes as much as I did recording them. Perhaps you'll enjoy them enough to do as I did and listen to them over and over... -Roz Brown.
