Houdek - Return to Houdek

Houdek is a band born from a conversation between two South Dakotans who were living in Minnesota at the time. We thought music would be a good way to reconnect with our roots, as it had been a few years since we had lived there. For the curious, Houdek is the official soil of South Dakota, native only to the state that brought us all together. And as an update to this story, most of the band had relocated back to it's home state by the close of 2013. Writing songs about your home state is not necessarily a unique experience as an artist. But there is a definite connection and affinity for the state among all the songwriters and members of the Houdek band. We have all lived in South Dakota, and many cannot help but reflect upon that experience when we approach our craft. Musically, our aim is to touch on country, roots, rock, folk ... any style that might speak to the simple yet profound origins of American music, sound that might grow from the fertile soils of South Dakota - the Houdek.
