Dead Souls

In 1890, the gentlemanly stranger Strindler (Alex Cox) arrived in an Arizona border town, and wasted little time winning over the local gentry. His curious agenda-plying them with cash for names and data of Mexican laborers who died in their employ or on their land-would play out to a stunning endgame. Cox transposed the Gogol novel to the Old West for his professed final project as director; co-scripted by spaghetti Western icon Gianni Garko. Zander Schloss, Sarah Vista, Dick Rude also star. 88 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English; audio commentary; featurettes; theatrical trailer.
