Celia's vocal gifts are readily apparent on this wonderful selection of Connemara greats. Her versions of 'Úna Dheas Ní Nia' and 'Sagart na Cúile Báine', both learned from her aunt, the well-known sean-nós singer, Sarah Ghriallais, are simply peerless. Celia also sings 'Neainsín Bhán' with style and aplomb and records two religious items here, a welcome addition to an album full of strong, confident, resonant singing. We have been a long time waiting for this album and now we can enjoy it. May the next one come soon! If Connemara is an area synonymous with the term sean-nós, certain families in the region also stand out because of their achievements in the realm of traditional Gaelic song. One of those is the Griallais family, from Muiceanach Idir Dhá Sháile, Camas, who in two generations have succeeded in winning Corn Uí Riada, the highest accolade for Gaelic song held each year by Oireachtas na Gaeilge, no fewer than seven times. Celia Ní Fhátharta is one of this group, having taken the chief prize in 1999. At that time also she secured a part as a singer in Fiona Shaw's critically acclaimed production of the Greek classic, 'Medea' at Ireland's National Theatre, The Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Since then, Celia has not been idle. She completed an MA in Modern Irish at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2009 on the tradition of her native Connemara and she now works as a teacher in Chicago, an American hotspot for sean-nós song, where her aunts Nóra and Áine Meenaghan, also from Camas, currently reside also.
