'Dahab' started as an acoustic trio that was created by Sharif Maghraby (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals), Majed Fassi (composition, lead and rhythm guitars, vocals) and Adham Sharkawy (percussion) in 2004. Our music can be defined as 'acoustic ethnic fusion." We mostly play our own original compositions [instrumentals and vocals], In some cases, we re-interpret some classic cover songs and include them in the repertoire. We have been active on the original music scene in the UAE for 5 years and have succeeded in becoming one of the more sought after bands for corporate gigs, concerts and music festivals. Dahab has also been featured on prominent TV stations in the region including ONE TV, AL AAN, ROTANA and MBC. We have succeeded in independently releasing our first album called "Spirit of Sinai" in January 2009- which was recorded, mixed and mastered at SoundDesign Studios In Cairo. It is an acoustic album with a very mellow unplugged sound and includes a full band that we brought in for the recording. The album was released on January 5th, 2009 and it is currently available for sale via digital distributors such as iTunes, Amazon and Nokia Music Express Store. We are currently in talks with distributors in the region to make our album available in stores. Here is a brief about the tracks : I REMEMBER WHEN : A song dealing with the memory and pain of going through a breakup - includes Nay by Hani El Badry. NO LOVE DIES : One of the very first tracks written - very mellow acoustic song. Good for anniversaries :) BROTHER : A song about world peace and the horrors of war. TIME : Well this one speaks for itself - it's about the thing we fear the most and making the most of your life. OVERDRIVE : This song was written as a protest to living in a modern consumer society where nothing is real. I AM GOLD : This song was written with a conscious effort to project joy, happiness and harmony. YOURS TO MAKE : With subtle religious connotations and a foreboding sense, this track is about judgement. Dahab : Title track and instrumental. Includes Nay from Hani El Badry. Very mellow and inspriing. 'Dahab' is actually a small Bedouin village in Sinai about 100km north of Sharm El Sheikh and it is renowned as a place where musicians and artists go to create and improvise. It is a place which we all agree has given us great times, great friends, great passion, great music and of course a feeling of harmony, peace and being one with nature. This is the essence of our band and most of our music has been composed in Sinai. We are inspired by Sinai - a magical and sacred land. We have all spent considerable time there and a lot of our songs were written there whilst meditating on the beach or deep in the desert. It is truly a beautiful place that helps one regain balance in their soul.
