* "Cheer-Accident are the quintessential Chicago post-rock band... a pronounced influence on the Windy City's art-rock scene." - Pitchfork * "Tons of weird rock records have streamed out of Chicago over the past two decades, but none have blended pop smarts and avant-garde impulses as skillfully as this marvelous brainteaser of an album... " - Time Out New York * Over the past four decades as staples of Chicago's indie scene, CHEER-ACCIDENT [always capitalized and always with a hyphen] have performed hundreds of shows all over the USA and Europe and have released dozens of albums. * They have gained a reputation as a band known for it's capacity for the unexpected. They are remembered for appearing on television and playing one note for an hour. Or playing their piece 'Filet of Nod' in a park in Chicago for over 8 hours (highlights are on YouTube) * While they have always been a band with a 'floating membership', the last few years have seen the band very impressively touring with a expanded line-up of between 7-10 members. * This set includes their new studio album [their 27th] and two live concerts from 2022 and 2023 [with that expanded personnel] on the group's first-ever DVD [also their first-ever live release]. namored with the way albums from the late '60s-early '70s were written and recorded, where the band would hole up in some remote farmhouse in the country and crank out a masterpiece. We finally took the plunge and ensconced ourselves in beautiful Northern Spain for two weeks in July 2024. * Disc Two: Yet more nostalgia... also been wanting to record a covers record for some time and worked out the following criteria: (1) deep-cut rock music from my sweet spot, the aforementioned '60s-early '70s and (2) tunes with instrumental sections that could be argued as to be "progressive" in nature, in most cases songs that were a little outside the more well-known pop tunes those artists were known for. Songs featured include deep tracks from Iron Butterfly, Kinks, Mountain, Spirit, Procolo Harum, Traffic, Steppenwolf, The Guess Who, James Gang and more.
