In 2000, seemingly innocuous London retiree Joan Stanley (Judi Dench) was arrested by British intelligence after a late acquaintance left evidence that she'd channeled atomic secrets to the Soviets during World War II and for 30 years thereafter. The tale of how the young defense researcher Joan (Sophie Cookson) was swayed by Communist friends is absorbingly told in this effort inspired by the Melita Norwood case.
