In the late 19th century, wanderer Johan Nagel (Rutger Hauer) arrives at a small town on the Isle of Man, earning the locals' ire for befriending a diminutive outcast (David Rappaport) and wooing the initially resistant Dany Kielland (Sylvia Kristel). "Mysteries" co-stars Rita Tushingham, Kees Brusse. Then, in the occupied Netherlands, a teacher and reluctant Resistance fighter (Frederik de Groot) might regret having recruited yokels to kill a Nazi collaborator.
