Moved to Greenwich Village with her toddler, young widow Michele O'Brien (Leslie Caron) snagged a secretarial job with prominent child psychologist Phillip Brock (Bob Cummings)... and hoped to snag a proposal as well. She finds a babysitter in her new neighbor, stag loop director and wannabe auteur Harley Rummel (Warren Beatty)... and he finds that he might want some say in the romantic outcome.
