In the mid-15th century, masterless samurai Hasuda Hyoe (Yo Oizumi) had enough of seeing the working class dealing with bandits and starvation while the elite thrived. After making an apprentice of young bandit Saizo (Kento Nagao), he was poised to lead an uprising of peasants and farmers, even at the cost of his former brother in arms, the shogunate-loyal Doken (Shinichi Tsutsumi).
