Roman Polanski's 1986 adventure comedy looks like a swashbuckler filtered through irony and exhaustion. Walter Matthau stars as Captain Red, a washed-up pirate whose fortunes revive when talk of a golden throne stirs his criminal imagination. Alongside cabin boy Jean-Baptiste (Cris Campion), Red schemes mutiny aboard an unforgiving galleon. Funny, cynical, and oddly reflective, the film co-stars Charlotte Lewis and Damien Thomas.
