Review

Review Text In the mighty and vast world of tribute albums, often the results and quality fall woefully short of the bar originally set by the original artist. While Love to Love You, Baby doesn't eclipse Donna Summer's legacy, it reasonably updates her finest moments to a more contemporary dance music sound with reverence and vibrancy. Starting with a high-energy progressive house take on her duet with Barbra Streisand, legendary house divas Jocelyn Brown and Kym Mazelle belt out "Enough Is Enough" with enough gusto to last beyond its comparatively short running time of five minutes. Contributions from '80s pop stars such as Laura Branigan, Sheena Easton, soul genius Brenda Russell, and synth pop heroes Soft Cell anchor a compilation that finds even the most obscure of artists stepping up to the plate and knocking each song out of the ballpark. Fans expecting a straight nonstop disco explosion may find the updates a bit off-putting, but those willing to go along with the updates will find this to be a tribute album worthy of its honoree. ~ Rob Theakston
