Review

Review Text The first in a series of similarly arranged compilations from Turn Up the Music, Legends of Reggae, Vol. 1 is a mixed bag of Jamaican productions done between 1972 and 1982 by several different producers, including King Jammy, Bunny Lee, Winston "Niney" Holmes, Ossie Hibbert, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Rupie Edwards, and Roy Cousins, and while some of the artists featured here are certainly legends (Bob Marley, for one obvious instance), some of them just aren't (like Prince Lincoln Thompson). Nothing here is particularly essential, either, not even the Marley tracks, which are all easily available elsewhere. All in all, this is a mostly forgettable collection, although it does have a sweet and summery vibe. ~ Steve Leggett
