Now depending on what you are listening to, many people find the definition of jazz these days to be watered down or commercial. On the contrary, jazz is felt in your soul, On Track holds true to that. Soulful, Funky, Smooth, Honest. Just a few words to describe the debut CD from Transit Authority. Very seldom do CDs come along that with every song you find these descriptions. Also a rarity is the gift of writers in this band from whom every track was penned. "Presenting our music to the listeners was very important to us, connecting with jazz lovers on that level was unforgettable". A head bobbing track, "225@5" written by Executive Producer and drummer Rickey Thaxton, has what he calls "bottom" and is a true blue funk piece inspired by times in traffic on Denver's infamous Interstate 225. "Tell Me Again", written by Producer Marcel Murray, has what some say "make you want to crawl up into," while "TA Blues" with a mean bass hook by bassist Julian Rodriguez just won't quit. "Tia", written by guitarist Kenny Schmittling, puts this whole experience into perspective as it was written after his late Aunt. And you can't miss John Reed Austin, the band's saxophonist, who blows his lungs out on every song. Give him your ear on "Chanda Song." Together they have presented a quality album that will soon be among those favored in your jazz collection.
