Review Text By the time of their first release, 1994's ROCKY ROAD EP, The Young Dubliners had evolved from the acoustic folk duo of Keith Roberts and Paul O'Toole into a wild septet. Their sound defies categorization. The Young Dubliners can be seen as Ireland's answer to Los Lobos, with a similar combination of traditional folk music, raucous electric rock, and forward-thinking experimentation. ROCKY ROAD mixes traditional-sounding tunes like "Rocky Road To Dublin" with such spiritually themed and outward-reaching songs as "Holy Ground" and "Ashley Falls." All six songs are exclusive to the EP. Roberts, O'Toole, and cohorts Randy Woolford, Jeff Dellisant, Bren Holmes, Jon Mattox, and Chas Waltz avoid bombast and overly slick production-traps that hobbled such likeminded bands as Hothouse Flowers and The Waterboys.
