Review

Review Text Anthemic street punk has never been known to be particularly melodic or well-conceived, just throaty yelling, speeding drums, and nonstop guitar. Fortunately, the Pinkerton Thugs put forth a good deal of effort into their music. This could be considered more of a punkier version of power pop, especially on "No Heroes No Justice" and "Don't Tread on Me," where they sound a lot more like the Figgs or the Plimsouls than the Dropkick Murphys. This album is well made, and these boys can write songs that are either singalong rockers or fully acoustic numbers. The guitar work here is a notch above your local teenage group of yelling folks, as well. The throaty vocals are still there, but they're somehow understandable. Also, "Never Say Die" lifts its melody straight from Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler." Heavily recommended. ~ Jeremy Salmon
