Review

Review Text One of the most underrated crews in commercial hip-hop, Flint's Dayton Family returned in 2002 with a solid third album, especially so considering there'd been no less than five solo albums since the last Dayton Family LP, 1996's F.B.I.. Again, producer Steve Pitts plays a big role, laying down a variety of deep tracks over the hard-hitting flow of rappers Shoestring, Bootleg, and Ghetto E, and dropping the beats out entirely for a section of "Do You Remember." "Big Mac 11" and the hardly welcoming "Welcome to Flint" are strong tracks too; unlike most hour-long hip-hop production LPs, Welcome to the Dopehouse stays solid throughout, thanks to Pitts' production as well as the rapping. ~ John Bush
