Review Text The third volume of this unauthorized but quite thorough seven-part CD series of Dave Clark Five recordings combines their seventh, eighth, and ninth U.S. albums -- I Like It Like That, Try Too Hard, and Satisfied with You -- onto one CD, adding "rechanneled" versions of their hit singles "Try Too Hard" and "Reelin' and Rockin'." While so much mid-'60s Dave Clark Five at once is going to prove too much for the average DC5 fan, this series isn't oriented toward such listeners; it's for completists. In the absence of official CD reissues of this material aside from the hits, this 34-track disc offers good value and, especially considering its unauthorized nature, good sound. Only a few hits are here ("I Like It Like That," "Try Too Hard," "Reelin' and Rockin'," "Satisfied with You," "Please Tell Me Why"), and of the many other songs, only the ferocious "I Need Love" -- one of their greatest hard rockers ever -- stands out as something that DC5 fans absolutely need to hear (and can, on the best Dave Clark Five compilation, The History of the Dave Clark Five). But if you do like the group and you're in a DC5 mood, actually this doesn't make for bad listening, even if it's mostly filler in the context of their main course. True, the songs tend to be lesser variations on the format they used with more skill on their hits; there are occasional weak ballads; and as a whole, it doesn't show the group exactly evolving much. But many of the cuts pound along well, and their underrated harmonies are a pleasure to hear in quite a few of the cuts. It also has what might be the best of their occasional outings into country music, "I Am on My Own." ~ Richie Unterberger
