The debut album by noise pop/deathgaze act The Switchblade Kid, the solo project of Harry Koniditsiotis, will be released this December. A longtime fixture of the Memphis and New Orleans music scenes, fans have spent many a late Saturday night (and subsequently many a rough Sunday morning) following the trail of spilt beer and broken glass left by the punk rock outfit he led, The Angel Sluts. However, Koniditsiotis's artistic sensibilities extend beyond the devil-may-care frenzied fun of that particular band. In addition to the Angel Sluts, he also formed the blue suede shoegaze group Twin Pilot, and co-fronted garage rockers The Turn It Offs. With his new solo project The Switchblade Kid Koniditsiotis merges the three different sensibilities of these bands to produce a unique sound like a Phil Spector produced early Jesus and Mary Chain and Nick Cave. The self-titled debut album was recorded and engineered by Koniditsiotis himself in his own 5 & Dime studio, and is the first release on his new imprint, MMM (Miss Molly Music). The album features a stellar assortment of musicians from Memphis, Chicago, and New Orleans, bringing a unique sound to each recording. Though essentially still a solo project, The Switchblade Kid has blossomed into a fuzzed out orchestra with a eight piece live band.
