Review Text Powered by an absolute certainty of conviction, S.T.U.N. presents itself as the new-millennial MC5, from confrontational lyric to wall-of-noise sonic attack. They're tighter than their proto-punk ancestors, though, and vocally more effective; declaiming in octaves, Christiane J. and Neil Spies metaphorically reproduce street-mob chants, unifying masculine and feminine with a stridency that suggests unity and invincibility. The rhetoric is vintage radical, sprinkled with "brothers," "sisters," "revolution," and other anarcho buzzwords; when they shout "there go the generations," it's enough to bring a tear to any old White Panther's eye. This ferocious, if somewhat generalized, content flies into the audience's face on waves of exhilarating instrumental backup, marked by guitar feedback, unexpected variations in tempo, and passages in which brutal staccato accents and apprehensive silences intersperse. No one, with or without a weatherman, can predict where the political gales unleashed by bands like this will blow. What's undeniable is that another generation may well pass by before another such tempest stirs the complacent seas. ~ Robert L. Doerschuk
