Though largely forgotten today, Wagenseil was a well-known musical figure in his day. He composed a number of operas, choral works, symphonies, concertos, chamber music and keyboard pieces. Delightful and inspired compositions from a sadly neglected composer. Georg Christoph Wagenseil (1715-1777) is one of the most important representatives of the Viennese Vorklassik who was instrumental in the development of the classical style. As an imperial "court composer" and piano teacher of Maria Theresa, he held one of the most prestigious musical positions in the Habsburg Empire. Recordings of his works to date have focused on his symphonies and the Harp Concerto in G major. Echo de Danube under Alexander Weimann puts him here as the creator of color occupied concerts before - with no less than three world premiere recordings!
