A wonderful stroke of luck, Georg Kroll began Diary in 1987, the year the secret heart of the clock was published. Reading the book, Krull was inspired to extract blocks of material from their overall structural context and so to devote special attention to the individual item. This served as a wonderful stroke of luck!
