Focussing on the variation genre, this program reveals the manifold, elusive moods, like a diary of the composer. From an homage to Beethoven up to the final variations composed right before sinking into the Rhine, it is all Romanticism, with it's breaks and ideals, that is sung by Schumann's piano.
