With this recording the band wanted to capture the spontaneity and interaction of a live performance. Unlike our first two recordings, it truly is the quartet with no guests featured. So, while there are some overdubs (the harmony flute in 'Carrie', additional percussion), all tracks were recorded live in a studio in one day. This proved troublesome with (among other things) the timbre of the congas, so Marcus switched to bongos or other percussion after the first few tracks. Sonically it has a very 'live' sound because of instrument bleed but with hand percussion and no actual drum kit, it has an intimate, subtle sound as well. We hope you can hear dialogues between us and even the occasional musical joke! It is what you would hear in a small club - which is where we do most of our performing.
