Review

Review Text The Parasites' Descendents/All style bubblegum pop/punk seems as old as the Black Hills, and indeed it's been a few years since their last full-length LP. As well, the group is down to just drummer Bob Masucci and singer/guitarist Nikki Parasite (who now is handling studio bass as well), but this is by far their most satisfying release. Credit Army's production, a cleaner, brighter, more pleasant sound that doesn't deplete the requisite edge, and the large harmonies that permeate every single last one of these 12 tracks. Little precious bits like the glisten guitar overdubs on "Nothing at All" and the shuffle step bridge in "You're Gonna Be Mine" show the group has a few new wrinkles and care about their tunes, rather than just being the 12,000th bash-and-popsters out there. Not that they can't turn up the jet burners when need be, as on "I Don't Believe You." But even on these more wicked-paced numbers, they project an almost wholesomeness; like Milo before them, these are the punks you don't mind your daughter dating, a boys-next-door band in love with punk's energy but also fond of swooning choruses and a desire to please. It all adds up to a whistling winner, a lemonade-on-a-sunny-day pogo trip. Nice stuff. ~ Jack Rabid
