Review Text Neil Leonard's Timaeus is a series of experimental compositions that seem to border on jazz, but have more to do with experimentation than anything else. One of the tracks that really sticks out is "M87," which is a piece where Neil Leonard plays to his computer and the computer -- recognizing the pitches and the intervals -- comes back with a tapestry of melodic patterns in real time. The thing that's really great about Neil Leonard's Timaeus is that it's a cohesive recording, which is quite unlike a lot of the jazz-influenced recordings that seem to be hitting record-store shelves. There's a lot of free jazz, post-tonal jazz, and works of that nature, but with Neil Leonard's Timaeus there's nothing disjointed or dissonant happening. There are quite a few other tracks on this recording, all equally choice, and even more that seem to be live experiments, but with Timaeus, Neil Leonard has certainly pulled off a great feat by creating a disc that is both interesting and interesting to listen to. ~ Matt Borghi
