Review Text
Soulful folk music full of tasty arrangements infused with blues, rock, Indian/middle eastern, and traditional jazz flavors. Spinning the Sky, the debut album from Mary Hocks, features great players from the Carolinas. Produced by Chris Rosser at Hollow Reed Studio in Asheville, NC. 'Spinning the Sky has a seamless, soulful groove that I find very intoxicating. Jazzy at times, folkie at others, even when dipping into Indian or Island flavors, it remains consistent to an overall laid back vibe. Mary's songs tumble forth with poetic grace revealing insights that invite the listener to read along as she sings. She is a marvelous singer and songwriter.'
