John's last album Foreign Territory featuring jazz drumming legend Billy Hart was released in April 2015 to critical acclaim from the New York Times and others. On this album, Minnesota born, NYC-based trumpeter John Raymond teams up with rising jazz stars Gilad Hekselman on guitar and Colin Stranahan on drums for Real Feels, a collection of classic traditional songs and covers. By interpreting a body of songs that the musicians and listeners have essentially internalized through familiarity-whether traditional staples like the spiritual "Amazing Grace" and Woody Guthrie's ubiquitous "This Land is Your Land," or indelible pop melodies like "Blackbird" and "Scarborough Fair", or Radiohead's "Atoms For Peace" - the trio attempts to make it's communication utterly direct.
