Synopsis

Igor Stravinsky is best known as the Russian composer who stunned audiences with the premiere of his 1913 ballet "La Sacre Du Printemps." The first performance of "La Sacre Du Printemps" (Rites of Spring) was held at a Paris theater, evoking the world of Russia's pagan tribes. Pierre Monteux conducted the original controversial performance on May 29, 1913. In this 1993 release, Pierre Boulez leads the London Symphony Orchestra in a new rendition of the Stravinsky classic. As a special bonus, Stravinky's symphony "D'Instrument Vent" is also featured on this release. ~ Dennis Proctor, Rovi
