Synopsis

Composer Joseph Haydn's spiritually-themed 1798 oratorio The Creation (AKA Die Schopfung) receives an interpretation by The Academy of Ancient Music Orchestra and Chorus and The Choir of New College Oxford in this classical music performance film. The program features solos by Anthony Rolfe Johnson (who sings the part of Uriel), Emma Kirkby (who performs as Gabriel and Eve) and Michael George (who performs as Raphael and Adam), conducted by Christopher Hogwood. The actual film features cutaways, during the performance, to footage of natural environments culled from the BBC History Unit and views of paintings by Joseph M.W. Turner and William Blake. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
