It was in 1946 that Rainbow Records released the first records under the Ralph Flanagan name, a four record album entitled "A Tribute to Glenn Miller". Flanagan had co-opted a band made up of Miller alumni and top studio men and eight sides were recorded. The Miller men in Flanagan's orchestra made up the whole trumpet section and nearly half of the Rainbow Records Orchestra! They include Bobby Hackett, Mickey McMickle and Bernie Privin (trumpets) Al Klink (tenor saxophone) Ernie Caceres (baritone saxophone) Carmen Mastren (guitar)and Trigger Alpert (bass). As Glenn Miller is Ralph Flanagan's hero, we have selected thirteen Miller recordings and paired them off with Flanagan recordings of a similar type to see how they compare.
