A native of rural Illinois, Schlatter's compositions in Spirit of the Prairie are an attempt to unify the old Irish hymns of the past with contemporary chords and rhythms. It is Schlatter's first CD. "Overall, Spirit of the Prairie shows a remarkable depth and maturity of technique and vision," writes Bruce Bergethon, general manager of WGLT-FM in a review of Spirit of the Prairie. "For me, Craig Schlatter's music serves as a reminder that the instrumental performance format has substantial expressive terrain."
