Review

Review Text Unfortunately, many of Colin Blunstone's BBC radio sessions have long since been taped over (regrettably a common practice at the Beeb), so this disc is an attempt to make the best of what remains. But the best of what's left makes this disc worth checking out for Blunstone fans. The album opens with two tracks from 1971, "Misty Roses" and the hit "Say You Don't Mind," both backed by a string section. This "Misty Roses" is actually superior to the studio take (on One Year), while "Say You Don't Mind" is on par with the hit version. There's also a version of the 1973 U.K. hit "I Don't Believe In Miracles," which is very similar to the studio version. "Brother Lover" and "Something Happens When You Touch Me" are lesser-quality tracks from the mid-'70s, mostly interesting from a historical point of view. The final four tracks date from an early-'90s session, in which Blunstone revisits several of his classic hits. These don't quite match the originals, but Colin's voice is still a thing of beauty and he carries these off very well. Live at the BBC isn't the greatest introduction to Blunstone, but those already fond of his work should find much to enjoy here. ~ Robin Platts
