Synopsis

Born in 1943 Britain, at the height of the Second World War, Celia Sandys grew up with a unique status: she was the granddaughter of British prime minister Winston Churchill, and not yet 18 when he died. The two shared innumerable experiences together, including extensive travels to exotic locales, one of Churchill's three undying passions. (The other two were a deep-seated love of painting and a love of literary composition). Now, in this documentary special originally screened on PBS, Sandys leads audiences on a tour of Churchill's artistic and literary accomplishments, and uses them as a window into the beloved elder statesman's inner thoughts, hopes and dreams. The program accompanies Sandys to milieux including Egypt, Morocco, Cuba, South Africa and France in search of her grandfather's legacy. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
