Galactic Mouthematics (2010) by Edward RosenBerg III Founded in 2007 and based in New York City, Cadillac Moon Ensemble is dedicated to the performance of new chamber music. The ensemble has commissioned more than fifty works for it's unique instrumental forces for flute, violin, cello, and percussion. Cadillac Moon Ensemble's enthusiasm for new music is apparent in this recording of six recent works by award-winning composers exhibiting a range of international musical influences, a musical atlas. Instead of scanning pages of maps, Atlas takes aural armchair travelers around the globe with music inspired by Japanese shakuhachi, Puerto Rican bomba, American jazz and even beyond Earth and into outer space. Back on Earth, the listener will encounter the Atlas moth in Towards the Flame, a creature that may have gotten it's name because the intricate patterns on the wings resemble colorful maps. Flutist Roberta Michel, violinist Patti Kilroy, cellist Michael Midlarsky and percussionist Sean Statser also put their voices to work on several pieces, where the composers call for a variety of vocalizations.
