Helema and Selema are identical twins and they are the creative life force behind the band 2 But Not 2; a rhythm and blues sound with an eclectic mix of funk, jazz and soulful rock. 'Growing up as identical twins definitely had it's disadvantages' admit the girls. 'Most people would only view us as twins, and could not see us as two separate indiviuals with our own likes and dislikes. When we learned about the Buddhist concept, 2 But Not 2, it explained what we felt; two identical people, yet not...at the same time'. Talented and respected singer/songwriters, Helema and Selema have opened for renown acts such as the 5th Dimension, Mary Wilson (of the Supremes), in the Los Angeles area as well as aboard at the Verdure Hotel in Shirayama, Wakayama, Japan. Born and raised in Philadelphia, one of the country's hottest areas of musical creativity, Helema and Selema have been singing since they were toddlers. Music was a constant backdrop at home, and their father played with legendary jazz greats Charlie Parker and Sonny Rollins.
