For a few brief years in the early '70s, before the advent of videocassettes, it became chic to go out with your date and see a good
hardcore sex film like
Behind the Green Door,
Deep Throat, and
The Devil in Miss Jones. Director
Gerard Damiano's
The Devil in Miss Jones -- working under the pseudonym
Jerry Gerard (he also directed
Deep Throat) -- is the most existential of the bunch. Lonely thirtyish woman
Justine Jones (
Georgina Spelvin) decides that her loneliness is unbearable and kills herself. She finds herself in limbo, awaiting shipment to hell -- not because of anything bad she had done in her life, but because she committed suicide.
Justine doesn't think it is fair that she be condemned to hell just for killing herself. Concluding that if she is going to hell, she might as well go there for a reason. She requests some time back on earth so she can be "enveloped by lust." She gets her request and, back on earth, she takes on all comers -- one man, one woman, two men, a man and a woman, and then with herself between breaks. She finally finds herself transported to a cubicle of hell with an impotent man (
Gerard Damiano, under the name of
Albert Gork) who has no interest in sex at all.
